Project title：Citizen Scientists and Public Scientific Literacy of China in the New Media Environment: A Case Study of Genetically Modified Food
The aim of my PhD thesis is to exhibit the process of science communication of contentious topic in China in a new media environment. For displaying such process, I have chosen Genetically Modified Food as my research topic and the biggest Chinese knowledge-sharing network, Zhihu, as research subject. In the analysis of science communication, I want to know how can the new media environment change Chinese science communication process and act on the improving public scientific literacy. And in such new media environment, how can laypeople and scientists interact with each. So, I draw the concept of citizen science into such analysis from the aspect of SSK.
My project is supervised by Dr Annamaira Carusi (Medical Humanities) and Dr Stefania Vicari (Sociology).
