Peter Winter

My PhD project explored the professionals’ embodied conduct in training students to ‘see’ normal/abnormal in x-ray images (radiographs) and to ‘interpret’ these as classifications of trauma/disease. This includes the methods and strategies that undergraduate students find useful or relevant when learning to see and interpret x-ray images. My research draws largely on the work of Charles Goodwin and Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger including the principles of social studies of imaging and visualisation practices at the intersection of science, technology studies (STS).

My project is supervised by Dr Kate Reed (Sociology), and Dr Annamaria Carusi (MHS).
