For whatever reason, the University of Sheffield has become the home to internationally recognised researchers in intoxicants, intoxication, and addiction. Sheffield provides research leadership and advice in fields ranging from public policy to historical studies and its academics are regular participants in public debates and decision-making. The ‘Intoxicants Research Group’ accordingly reflects this current expertise in ScHARR, in the Arts and Humanities, and in Medicine. Its remit is to meet regularly, organize seminars and workshops, supervise inter-disciplinary studentships, and develop collaborative research projects that extend our understanding of intoxicants and their place in the worlds past, present, and future.
